Pancakes all day!

Pancakes all day!

Get your pans ready for Tuesday 9th February.

Pancake Day has been celebrated by Britons for centuries.  Known also as Shrove Tuesday, its exact date, rather confusingly, changes every year, because it is determined by when Easter falls. But it is always the day preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), and always falls in February or March. Pancakes are associated with the day preceding Lent because they were a way to use up rich foods such as eggs, milk, and sugar, before the fasting season of the 40 days of Lent.

The most famous pancake race, at Olney in Buckinghamshire, has been held since 1445. The contestants, traditionally women, carry a frying pan and race over a 415-yard course to the finishing line. The rules are strict: contestants have to toss their pancake at both the start and the finish, as well as wear an apron and a scarf. Traditionally, when men want to participate, they must dress up as a housewife (usually an apron and a bandanna). The race is followed by a church service.

How to make the perfect pancakes.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy

Do you have a favourite topping or maybe take turns on flipping the mixture?

Here at Masterflex, jam, sugar, lemon juice or maple syrup are some of the more popular choices to have with pancakes.

Happy birthday Karl!

IMG-20150129-WA0005_resized

One of our skilled production operatives is celebrating his birthday here at Masterflex today.

Karl Summerscales (also known as Taz) has turned 33 today.

He has worked at Masterflex for 10 years.

On a daily basis you can hear Karl singing to the radio, whilst setting the equipment up ready for the hoses to be made.

He enjoyed an eventful night out in Manchester with his friends over the weekend but is now hard at work making the hoses.

Give Masterflex a call, place an order and Karl maybe the one who manufactures your product.

Are you from Lancashire?

map-lancashire

When is Lancashire Day?

Today is Lancashire day and it is held annually on 27 November to commemorate the day in 1295 when Lancashire first sent representatives to Parliament, to attend the Model Parliament of King Edward I.

Curated by the Friends of Real Lancashire, it is observed with the loyal toast to “The Queen, Duke of Lancaster”, and is celebrated from everywhere within the county Palatine.

The day is marked throughout the historic county by town criers announcing the Lancashire Day proclamation which declares the historic regions boundaries of the county, and finishes with “God bless Lancashire, and God save the Queen, Duke of Lancaster”

Lancashire Day allows us the opportunity to declare that we are proud to be Lancastrians.

Us northerners are renowned for our fabulous dialect and amazing food, Lancashire hotpot, Morecambe bay shrimps, Lancashire Cheese, Blackpool tower, Ribble Valley, great pubs and great walks!

Here’s a selection of words and phrases you might hear when you come to Lancashire:

Saying/ word: Put wood in th’ole

Meaning: Shut the door

Saying/ word: It’s cracking flags

Meaning: it is so hot outside that stone pavings are breaking

Saying/ word: I’m spitting feathers here

Meaning: I am thirsty

Saying/ word: He’s not as green as he’s cabbage looking

Meaning: He’s not as stupid as he looks

Here are some facts about Lancashire:

  • Lancashire was established in 1183
  • The county covers an area of 3,075 sq km – making it one of the largest shire counties
  • Dunsop Bridge in the Ribble Valley is the centre of the British Isles
  • Preston is one of England’s newest Cities and in 2012 it celebrated the Preston Guild, which only happens every 20 years and is England’s oldest festival
  • The Leeds Liverpool Canal – Britain’s longest – flows through large parts of the county
  • The mill towns of Blackburn and Burnley were the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century
  • You can see Blackburn and Burnley from the famous Pendle Hill. The hill is only 165ft shy of also being called a mountain
  • Bashall Town, near Clitheroe, is England’s smallest town
  • Blackpool Illuminations comprise an amazing one million lamps in various types and styles and cost £2.4 million to stage

1 year anniversary

Bonfire and firework time

15 - 1

It’s that time of the year were the winter woolies have been dug out of the wardrobe, sparklers have been bought and the parkin is in the oven cooking.

With the gloves and scarf on, it is exciting to see the colourful fireworks light up the night sky with the big bangers, beautiful fountains and screaming rockets.

Here at Masterflex, we have been creating a few sparks of our own from the machines that produce the hoses and ductings, specifically designed to withstand high temperatures up to 1100°C?

At the higher end of the temperature range, we create Master Clip 1100, which is used for exhaust fume extraction on large capacity engines, and automotive and aircraft manufacturing.

Medium to high temperature hoses such as Master Sil can be used for gases, plastic industry and waste incinerators. Temperatures can accommodate anything up to 250°C

At the lower end of the scale we make Master Clip Vinyl B which has been designed for air conditioning and ventilation extraction systems.

If you would like a quote on any item we produce whether it’s for Woodworking, Construction, Air Conditioning and Ventilation, Automotive or Asbestos removal.

Shaken not stirred…

spectre1208141280jpg-398894_1280w

Will you be watching the new James Bond film Spectre?

The new film had it’s premier on Monday 26th October. The spy thriller, starring Daniel Craig featuring Sam Smith’s Writing’s On The Wall as the theme music.

SPECTRE gets its name from the acronym for “Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion.” Ever since its foundation, its main goal has been to undermine the governments of the world, in hopes of one day ruling it. Some of their most infamous plots have involved the attempted radiating of Fort Knox’s gold supply, the ransom of two nuclear warheads found off the coast of the Bahamas, as well as various plots involving the sabotage of the space program.

Did you know that…

  •  SPECTRE is on track to be one the most expensive films ever made, costing over $300 million.
  • SPECTRE establishes a link between all of Daniel Craig’s Bond movies up to this point, as it features both documents from Bond’s childhood found in the ruins of Skyfall Lodge and the return of Mr White. Skyfall had no apparent link to both plots of Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale before.
  • Directors Ang Lee, Tom Hooper, David Yates, Danny Boyle, Shane Black and Christopher Nolan were being considered to direct the film until Sam Mendes decided to come back after Skyfall.
  • Sam Mendes confirmed SPECTRE will be his last Bond film.

Here are some more facts about the film.

 1. While shooting in Rome, the Mayor allowed producers to shut the busiest road in the country off so that crew could film the high-speed car chase scene.
2. The crew of Spectre travelled to Morocco, Austria and Mexico to shoot the film.
3. Not just a road, but even a plaza in Mexico was shut for four days to shoot huge sequences in the film. The opening scene in Mexico shows the Dead Festivities, and it took six months to make costumes for the thousands of people involved.
4. Lucia, the character played by Monica Bellucci, is the James Bond’s oldest love interest at 50.
Bond is known for using many gadgets throughout the film in order to succeed at the task, and here at Masterflex we have our own set of gadgets, specialised tools and machinery to manufacture hoses and ductings for individual requirements.

Why not increase your stocks of flexible hoses and ducting from Masterflex?

Simply let us know what is passing through the hose, the size and length you need, and your order could be with you the next day on stock items.
