Hello Giant Causeway

finn-mccools-giant-battle-with-benandonner-at-giants-causeway-credit-peter-muhly

‘The legend tells us that the Irish Giant Finn McCool had a rival – a Scottish giant named Benandonner. Finn McCool decided to build a causeway to Scotland so that he could challenge his adversary in battle. When the work was completed, the causeway stretched from North Antrim to Staffa.

Finn was frequently taunted by Benandonner from afar and on one occasion Finn scooped up a clod of earth and hurled it across the sea at him but missed.  The huge clod of earth landed in the middle of the Irish Sea making the Isle of Man and the depression formed from scooping up the earth filled up with water to become Lough Neagh.

Bennandonner accepted the invitation to walk over to Ireland and fight for supremacy. As Benandonner appeared over the horizon, Finn McCool realised in horror that he had taken on a rival much bigger than himself. He ran home to his wife, Oonagh. What to do?
The quick thinking Oonagh disguised Finn as a baby and made him curl up in an enormous cradle. Benandonner – faced with the sight of this huge ‘child’ took fright at the thought of the size of his father and fled back to Scotland tearing up the causeway in his wake.’

Will you be watching?

eclipse

This Friday (20th March) you will be able to see something amazing!

The partial solar eclipse is due to wow spectators, as the moon passes between the sun and the earth,

hiding the sun from view and blocking out the sunlight that usually reaches us.

The eclipse will begin here in Manchester at around 8.45am on Friday and peak at around 9.30am before ending at 10.30am.

It will be the biggest eclipse since August 1999.

Have you set your alarm, ready for the big event?

Masterflex are open 8:00am- 5:00pm Monday to Friday, so if you want to place an order before the eclipse, then there is plenty of time.

StPatricksDayHappy

Today, March 17th, celebrates the life and work of the patron Saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.

Saint Patrick’s Day was made an official Christian feast day in the early 17th century and is observed by the Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion (especially the Church of Ireland), the Eastern Orthodox Church, and Lutheran Church.

The day commemorates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, and celebrates the heritage and culture of the Irish in general. Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilithe, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks. Christians also attend church services and the Lenten restrictions on eating and drinking alcohol are lifted for the day, which has encouraged and propagated the holiday’s tradition of alcohol consumption.

On St Patrick’s Day it is customary to wear shamrocks and/or green clothing or accessories (the “wearing of the green”). St Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. This story first appears in writing in 1726, though it may be older. In pagan Ireland, three was a significant number and the Irish had many triple deities, a fact that may have aided St Patrick in his evangelisation efforts.

Get in touch with Masterflex, and let us know how will you be celebrating?
