We loved the Grand National in our house………….at 3.00pm on a Saturday afternoon, live on BBC1, the Grand National would take place, but we never watched it at home! My Dad would go through the “pull out” in the paper and contemplate which horses he would lay his bets on. Then he’d turn to us kids and say “pick a horse”. I always picked one that reminded me of someone or a place I had visited. We’d all get ready, as a family and get our coats on whilst my Dad went to put his bets on in town, then we’d make a dash to the local Dixons shop and watch the Grand National on their TV’s………..in colour!!!! There would be a huge crowd all cheering their horses on and waving their tickets……….Good luck for Saturday and may the best horse win!!!!
