Time to gain an hour!!!

Clocks go back Sunday 29th October

What is the one thing people want more of?????

Well if it is Time that you are wanting then you are in luck!, as we will all be gaining an extra hour on Sunday. Yip Pee!!!!

The clocks should be put back 60 minutes at 1am on Sunday October 29. When the clocks go back, the UK will be back onto Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Mobile phones and other devices connected to the Internet should change automatically. Other devices, like cookers and ovens will need to be changed manually.

Clocks then move forward again on March.  The reason for changing the clocks twice a year is known as Daylight Saving Time and was brought in from 1907 to get people out of bed earlier during summer when it gets light from 4 to 5am even when the clocks have gone back. But there have been calls to scrap it entirely because of the adverse impact of nights drawing in earlier during winter.

So don’t forget Sunday 29th Oct to turn your clocks back 1 hour!

It’s back to work for everyone at Masterflex (hopefully everyone will turn in on time) manufacturing hoses and ducting to suit your individual requirements

Trafalgar Day

Trafalgar Day

Today is the celebration of the victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson. He oversaw the combined French and Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 1805 at Cape Trafalgar, off the coast of Spain. Today it is commonly referred to as Trafalgar Day.

The battle had massive repercussions for Napoleon’s France and the future of the British Empire. Admiral Lord Nelson commanded the fleet from HMS Victory but was mortally wounded in the engagement, so the event also commemorates and celebrates his life.

Wreaths are normally laid at Lord Nelson’s tomb in St Paul’s Cathedral and on board the Victory at Portsmouth on Trafalgar Day.

The historic signal “England expects….” is sent from the ship at 8am followed by a memorial service on board.

At Trafalgar Square in London, the Sea Cadets usually put on a display to showcase their skills at 11 am before marching to the Wellington Barracks on Birdcage Walk.

Traditionally this event has seen bands salute – the display lasts over an hour and has been a highlight of the Sea Cadets’ calendar for over a century.

Each year around 500 members of the Sea Cadets march from Horse Guards’ Parade to Nelson’s Column to mark Trafalgar Day.

Here at Masterflex, we are continuing with our legacy of manufacturing hoses and ducting for a wide range of industries.

Asbestos Removal

Deconstruct_asbestos_removal

What is Asbestos and Asbestos removal?

Definition of Asbestos:

‘Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material the name covers any of six incombustible, chemical-resistant, fibrous minerals of impure magnesium silicate, occurring in either serpentine or amphibole form, and used historically in many products, including fire proofing, electrical insulation, building materials, brake linings and chemical filters. Owing to health hazards, notably lung damage from asbestos inhalation, use of asbestos has been restricted and its removal has been mandated in many instances’.

Where is Asbestos used?

Asbestos was widely used as an insulation and fire proofing solution. In particular, it found its way into products like ceiling tiles, pipe insulation, boilers, sprayed coatings and garage roof tiles in buildings such as houses, factories, offices, schools and hospitals. It was even used in clothing, a handkerchief in the 18th Century, and Charlemagne the Roman Emperor was said to have a tablecloth made entirely from ‘Salamander Hair/Wool’ – the Roman name for asbestos.

Why should we remove asbestos?

It has now been proven that the fibres from asbestos can cause serious harm to people’s health. Asbestos inhalation can lead to breathing problems, lung cancer and mesothelioma, causing around 5000 deaths every year, with around 500 new cases coming to light yearly.

As this has become an important issue, the need to remove asbestos has increased over the years.

How can we help you remove asbestos?

Masterflex manufacture hoses on-site that can be designed to suit your asbestos removal requirements. One hose in particular that would help the removal of asbestos is the Masterclip Vinyl.

This can be produced:

– in either grey or red material

– 6 or 8 metre lengths as standard, lengths up to 25 metres to order.

Properties of Master Clip Vinyl

• smallest bending radii

• highly flexible

• extremely compressible to approx. 1:6

• outer chafing protection spiral

• high tension-proof connection of wall-lining and spiral via special clamp mechanism

• adheres to TRBS 2153 (Zone 1, 21) for non-flammable dusts and gases with low conductivity for dissipation of electrostatic charges with double-ended grounding of clips and gradient of < 30 mm

• robust and inexpensive

Temperature Range

•-20°C to +70°C

•peaks to +80°C

Marketing does It’s a Knockout

knockout logo

Last weekend, Hayley from the Marketing department took part in It’s a Knockout, in Manchester.

Did you ever watch this game show when it was on television?

Games and costumes from the BBC TV series are brought to life using the Kings from the Royal It’s a Knockout and the classic Penguin Pursuit.

The idea was to complete 6 different challenges which consisted of giant costumes, bouncy castles and an inflatable obstacle course.

Thankfully, manufacturing flexible hoses is a much simpler process and when ordering stock you won’t face any obstacles with Masterflex.
