This weekend sees the Monaco Grand Prix.

monaco_gp_map-2016

What a Circuit!!!! ……..…it consists on the city Streets of Monte Carlo and La Condamine, which include the famous harbour.  The Circuit has many elevation changes and tight corners and the narrow course makes it one of the demanding tracks in Formula One racing.  It has been named as an exceptional location of glamour and prestige!!!

The first “Grand Prix Automobile do Monaco” was by invite only and was held on the 14th April 1929.  The first ever winner was William Grover-Williams, driving a Bugatti.

Graham Hill was known as “Mr Monaco” due to his five Monaco victories back in the 60’s, however this record was beaten by the late Ayrton Senna, a record of six times back in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993.

Let’s hope Lewis Hamilton MBE, last year’s winner, can excel to victory once more!!!!

Masterflex Technical Hoses Limited is able to provide hoses for Exhaust extraction from vehicles. Size range 38mm – 900mm.  Temperature range up to +1100°C.

Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine!!!

images

In 1967, 50 years ago, Sandie Shaw won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Puppet on a String” for the United Kingdom …………can Lucie Jones, this year’s representative,  go on to win the 2017 Eurovision Contest with her song “Never Give Up on You” or will the favourites, from Italy, take the title??

The last Eurovision Contest the United Kingdom won was back in 1997 with “Love Shine a Light” by Katrina and the Waves.  Prior to that, in 1981 we saw a fabulous and unforgettable routine from the Eurovision winners, Buzz Fizz and “Making Your Mind Up”………. who can forget the ripping off the skirts!!.  Whilst back in 1976, Brotherhood of Man invented a catchy dance to “Save all your Kisses for Me”, and in 1969, Lulu shot to the winner’s pole with a “Boom Bang-a-bang……..”

In 1956 we saw the birth of the Eurovision Song Contest, held at the Teatro Kursaal in Lugano, Switzerland on Thursday 24 May, Where Switzerland won the Contest.  The first ever winner was Lys Assia with her song “Refrain”

Masterflex Technical Hoses Limited wishes all the Contestants, the best of luck!!.

Clinical waste and waste incineration

Clinical waste and waste incineration

waste-management-skip

What is clinical waste and waste removal?

Definition:

Clinical waste consists of medical waste that could pose a threat to public health unless properly disposed of. It is a category of hazardous waste, and has to be collected under tightly controlled conditions and disposed of by incineration. It cannot be put with normal rubbish. The process is legally enforced by strict government regulations.

Clinical waste is defined in the Controlled Waste Regulations 1992. Any other waste arising from medical, nursing, dental, veterinary, pharmaceutical or similar practice, investigation, treatment, care, teaching or research, or the collection of blood for transfusion, being waste which may cause infection to any person coming into contact with it.

It refers to any waste that consists wholly or partly of:

  • Human or animal tissue, blood or bodily fluids,
  • Dressings or swabs,
  • Unwanted medicines and other pharmaceutical products,
  • Used syringes, needles and blades (‘contaminated sharps’),
  • Excretions.

How should clinical waste be removed?

Clinical waste should be placed in secure clinical waste bins, Domestic Waste Bins, Sanitary Bins, Nappy Bins and Recycling Bins. There are various companies that manufacture products to suit this industry and take the contents of the bin away to be incinerated.

How can we help you remove your clinical waste?

Masterflex manufacture a range of durable hard wearing hoses that can can be used in the incineration process. If you are in the incineration industry and have requirements for flexible hose and ductings, we will be happy to hear from you.

Happy 100th Birthday to Vera Lynn…. The forces “Sweetheart”…!!!!

Image result for dame vera lynn

Vera Welch was born on 20 March 1917 in East Ham, part of east London.  By the age of seven, Vera was singing in working men’s clubs.  When she turned 11, Vera took her grandmother’s maiden name of Lynn as a stage name.

In 1936, when she was 19, she had her first solo record – called Up the Wooden Hill to Bedfordshire. By the age of 22 she had sold more than a million records.  However, it was during World War Two that her reputation was made. She frequently sang to the troops at morale-boosting concerts, becoming known as “The Forces’ Sweetheart”. One off her most popular songs was “We’ll Meet Again” which was released in 1939.

She was appointed OBE in 1969, made a Dame in 1975, and a Companion of Honour in 2016.

What an amazing life this Lady has had.  Happy Birthday Dame Vera Lynn from Masterflex

Happy Halloween from Masterflex

The name ‘Halloween’ is a contraction of ‘All Hallows Eve’, and is the night before ‘All Saints Day’.
Also known as Hallowe’en and All Saints Eve, Halloween is celebrated on the 31st of October.
It begins the three day observance of ‘AllHallowTide’, a time dedicated to remembering the Saints (Hallows), Martyrs and faithful departed.

It is widely believed that Halloween is a Christianised version of Samhain, the Gaelic festival celebrating the end of the harvest, and the beginning of winter, though some academics disagree.

Halloween activities revolve around dressing up, usually in scary costumes to go ‘Trick-or-Treat’ing, where children go door to door collecting sweets and Treats, under threat of a Trick if the home owner isn’t forthcoming.

At home, people decorate their homes, carve pumpkins into grotesque faces, bob for apples, tell scary stories, watch horror films and hold Halloween fancy dress parties.

On a less commercial note, Christians will visit the graves of dead relatives to light candles of remembrance and attend church services. Some abstain from eating meat on this day, choosing instead seasonally traditional foods such as apples, potato pancakes and ‘Soul Cakes’, a simple sweet cake, or Soul, that is given out to the children and poor of the parish.

It’s easy to see where the more commercial activities come from. Apple bobbing from the traditional eating of apples, children Trick or Treating from the distribution of Soul Cakes.

‘May the force be with you’

‘May the force be with you’

Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began on May 25, 1977 with the release of the film Star Wars by 20th Century Fox, which became a worldwide pop culture phenomenon. It depicts the adventures of various characters “a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”.

May 4 is considered a holiday by some Star Wars fans to celebrate the franchise’s film series, books, and culture. The date was chosen for the easy pun on the catchphrase “May the Force be with you”— “May the Fourth be with you”. Even though the holiday was not actually created or declared by Lucasfilm, many Star Wars fans across the world choose to celebrate the holiday

May Day

Did you know that today, Friday 1st May, is known as May Day?

May Day is most associated with towns and villages celebrating springtime fertility of the soil, livestock and revelry with village fetes and community gatherings.

Traditional English May Day celebrations include Morris dancing, crowning a May Queen and maypole dances.

Singing and eating cake are usually part of the day.

Here at Masterflex, there will be no singing, dancing or Maypoles, just enjoying the long weekend.

We are back open as normal Tuesday 5th May, 8am-5pm.

Royal Wedding Anniversary

Royal Wedding Anniversary

Happy 5th wedding anniversary William and Kate!

The wedding of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine Middleton took place on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London, United Kingdom. The groom, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, is the eldest son of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales, and second, after his father, in line to succeed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince William and Kate Middleton met in 2001, while undergraduates at St Andrews, where they both lived at St Salvator’s Hall during their first year, after which they shared accommodation in the town for two years. Their engagement on 20 October 2010 was announced on 16 November 2010. The occasion was a public holiday in the United Kingdom and featured many ceremonial aspects, including use of the state carriages and roles for the Foot Guards and Household Cavalry.

The overall price of the event was reportedly £20 million.The Australian newspaper Herald Sun estimated 32 million for security and $800,000 for flowers. Estimates of the cost to the economy of extra public holidays, such as that allowed for the wedding, vary between £1.2 billion and £6 billion.
