What is the definition of Pharmaceutical?

The definition of pharmaceutical is something related to prescription drugs or pharmacies.

What are pharmaceutical drugs used for?

A pharmaceutical drug is a drug used to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent disease. Drugs are classified in various ways. One of the key divisions is by level of control, which distinguishes prescription drugs from over-the-counter drugs. Another key distinction is between traditional small molecule drugs, usually derived from chemical synthesis, and bio pharmaceuticals, which include recombinant proteins, vaccines, blood products used therapeutically, gene therapy, and cell therapy. Other ways to classify medicines are by mode of action, route of administration, biological system affected, or therapeutic effects. An elaborate and widely used classification system is the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical Classification System.

• FDA approved • Improved pressure and vacuum characteristics vs Master-Pur L Food

Applications

• Transportation of solid, liquid and gaseous media in the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industry.

Temp Range: -40ºC to +90ºC (intermittent to +125ºC).

Other lengths are available on request for both hoses. Also both hoses can be made with an antistatic variant known as the Master PUR L Food A and the Master PUR H Food A.

• Suction and discharge of liquid media • Granular transportation

Unusual uses for Masterflex Hoses

How creative have you been with Masterflex hoses?

One student visited Masterflex for her college course as she wanted to travel to West Africa with a light weight, durable hose.

She managed to turn Flamex BF into a snake that moved freely, mimicking the movements of a real snake.

The overall aim was to carry out research on the relationship between monkeys and snakes in their natural environment.

Another student transformed a small length of Master PUR L into a robotic fish.

A typical day at Masterflex…

So what is a ‘typical’ day at Masterflex I hear you ask?

Daily orders come in via email, phone call or fax and it is down to 2 lads in the office and 4 men on the shop floor to complete the transactions.

Some days can be quite hectic in the office dealing with quotes, orders and deliveries, but we make sure everything is to the correct specification and dispatched on time.

As a manufacturer we deal with end users, suppliers and distributors, around the UK and further afield. Today, our products are in use throughout various industries, such as Automotive, Construction, Food, Pharmaceutical, Woodworking and Air Conditioning.

Masterflex Technical Hoses Limited can also design and manufacture a hose or ducting to a customers’ specific needs.

Can you handle the heat….

Here at Masterflex, we are currently enjoying the warm weather that has hit the UK over the last few days.

With every window open and an ice lolly to keep us refreshed, we are able to keep producing Flexible Hose and Ducting for a wide range of industrial applications including extraction of dust and fumes and the conveyance of abrasive media.

Everything we manufacture is mainly used for Woodworking, Plastics, Chemical/Pharmaceutical, Food, Automotive, Military and General Engineering.

Did you know that some hoses are manufactured to withstand high temperatures up to 1100°C?

At the higher end of the temperature range, we create Master Clip 1100, which is used for exhaust fume extraction on large capacity engines, and automotive and aircraft manufacturing.

Medium to high temperature hoses such as Master Sil can be used for gases, plastic industry and waste incinerators. Temperatures can accommodate anything up to 250°C

At the lower end of the scale we make Master Clip Vinyl B which has been designed for air conditioning and ventilation extraction systems.

Flamex BF, is a medium duty polyurethane, with a stainless steel PVC coated spiral helix.

It is extremely flexible, highly abrasion resistant,heavy duty hose.

Master-PUR step hose, is again specifically designed for wood dust extraction. It is a polyester polyurethane hose with a polyurethane external profile. It is highly flexible and is fire retardant to specifications DIN 4102 B1. A key design feature for Master-PUR step, is that it is crush resistant. Plastic Recycled into Liquid Fuels…

Green issues and concern for our environment are ever present in today’s society. Awareness of the need for sustaining our energy sources is one aspect of this and for those who work within the plastics industry disposal of waste products is a concern.

To this end, many utilise Plastic Recycling Centres. Re-use of the product in different forms, and for different uses seeming a sustainable method.

It was exciting to read this weekend of the latest developments in this area: Charles Kennedy, “Oil Price.com” this weekend released an article regarding “New Process Recycles Old Plastics into Usable Liquid Fuels”.

The article explains how researchers in India, have developed a process that can turn old low-density polyethylene (the most common form of plastic waste) into usable liquid fuels.

Plastics are very useful during their product life but once disposed they don’t degrade naturally, and this can create huge problems in terms of waste disposal. Perhaps now due to this development the highly useful medium of plastic can be recycled into a form that supports our future need for energy.

The article is corroborated in a Press Release from Clean Technica:

A new, relatively low-temperature means of creating liquid fuels from common plastic waste has been developed by researchers from the Centurion University of Technology and Management, and the National Institute of Technology, both in India.

The new process utilizes a common waste material, low-density polyethylene (LDPE), to produce an effective oil-substitute — helping to limit the quantity of plastic waste that ends up in the world’s landfills, as well as potentially helping to ameliorate some of the effects of dwindling oil supplies (economically recoverable oil supplies that is).

“A new, relatively low-temperature means of creating liquid fuels from common plastic waste has been developed by researchers from the Centurion University of Technology and Management, and the National Institute of Technology, both in India.

This should encourage those who don’t at present utilise Plastic Recycling Centres to do so. An amazing material, in its product lifetime, may keep on giving in its recycled form.
